The client reference code system is a process whereby each client accessing services from your agency is associated with a unique code. These unique codes are logged in NEO, and the total number of unique codes logged is reported as the unique number of individuals accessing your services.
Various agencies in Ontario have been using a client reference code/client ID system prior to the implementation of the Ontario Harm Reduction Database. For example, service providers may have supplied each client they saw with a random number/letter combination, or clients may have been invited to create their own unique nicknames. Clients are generally instructed to reference their unique code/nickname every time they receive services.
The client reference code system in NEO is formed by taking the client's gender, exactly 4 letters, and any 4 numbers between 1901 - present (try to choose something you will remember).
