Knowledge Sharing Event

The goal of YWHO’s Indigenous Working Group is to bring together YWHO sites in order to discuss innovative ways of increasing Indigenous engagement and inclusion throughout programs and services, as well as increasing capacity across all hubs. They will closely work with the Provincial Indigenous Youth & Family Advisory Circle to implement the top five priorities this Advisory Circle has identified for YWHO in order to meaningfully meet the needs of Indigenous youth across the province. These priorities include:

  1. Ensuring all hubs access cultural awareness and trauma-informed care training that is Indigenous-specific
  2. Collaborating with Indigenous organizations across Ontario to address the need for wrap-around services for Indigenous youth in culturally grounded supports
  3. Providing youth-centered supports such as access to traditional medicines and Indigenous-specific crisis supports
  4. Broadening the understanding of the circle of care (for example, recognizing and establishing support from Elders, Aunties, and Uncles as part of the circle of care)
  5. Increasing Indigenous representation among YWHO staff.
